Jessamy & Bill: Gorgeous Glensheen Mansion Wedding

When you grow up in the same small Minnesota town, your parents probably know each other & everyone knows your business (including who you’ve got a crush on!). Although Jessamy & Bill grew up in Grand Rapids, they didn’t really cross paths until Jessamy’s freshman year of college, when she was home visiting. Bill was twitterpated from the moment he met Jess, but it took four years of persistence before she finally agreed to go on a date with the handsome big-hearted bearded guy. In true northwoods fashion, their first date was a camping trip, where sparks flew + mosquitoes were abundant.

In July, they said “I do” at Duluth’s Glensheen Mansion overlooking loved ones + the big lake. It was a day of happy tears, killer dance moves, festive sparklers, and even a canine tuxedo, sported by their silver lab Boone! My heart did a cartwheel when I entered their stunning reception tent, complete with gold sequin tablecloths, blush accents, handmade touches, and a jaw-dropping dessert table featuring How Sweet it Is Cakes. I’m over here like, “No one will notice if I swipe a few cupcakes, right?”

After dinner, we snuck away to the shoreline for a few minutes of Lake Superior R&R. I always encourage these mid-reception getaways for my couples: Even more than gorgeous golden hour photographs, these little breaks help you take a deep breath & fully soak in what just happened. While it may be tempting to say, “Oh, we just want to hang at our reception so we don’t miss anything!” I promise you: Taking a few minutes away to focus on each other is a beautiful way to fully experience the magnitude of your wedding day.
