“But we’re so awkward in photos!”
If I had a Thin Mint for every time I heard this, I would be the world’s largest lady. Friends, we are all in the same boat. Most of us feel a teensy bit awkward in the presence of a camera lens. Heck, myself included! You’re probably thinking, “But Bailey, those photos of you on your website are so adorable/natural/etc.” Guess what? That’s a huge credit to the photographer (shout out to my girl Jenna Kutcher). She harnessed my quirks, my nervous mannerisms, and my awkward giggles. From my perspective, I felt like a total dork (but a dork having fun!). By trusting her vision & embracing my inner dork, I am blown away by the results. Those images are me: Glitter, greenery & all!
As clients, it’s hard to feel like the magic is really happening. Are these photos turning out? What if I’m the one person she can’t make look absolutely adorable? You guys, these are normal concerns! Remember, your images have everything to do with who’s behind the lens. There are a million photographers to choose from, and each one has a different approach, a different way of seeing the world. That’s why it is so important to find a photographer you love, whose work truly resonates with you. If you vibe well with your photographer, then you have nothing to worry about.
I want to create images that stir something within you. I want you to view your photographs not only with your eyes, but also with your heart. The path to get there? It doesn’t involve me reciting love sonnets to you. And Girl Scout’s honor, I will never tell you to “Look cute!” or “Act like you like each other!” (which, let’s be honest, are both no-no’s for capturing real, raw images).
However, it will involve making you laugh with my witty one-liners and dorky banter (just humor me). I might shimmy and shake, I might make a fart joke, I might tell you to blow a big fat raspberry on your love’s cheek (super sexy, right?).
If you are totally repulsed by the above, then we probably aren’t a good fit. And that’s okay! I truly shine with clients who embrace their inner dork, who aren’t afraid to laugh, and who totally trust me. The truth? I love your “awkwardness.” For me, genuine dorky-ness is the raw material for beautiful images. And although you may not feel the magic happening, you will be blown away by the real, raw beauty that happens between the raspberry & resulting belly laugh.
Just remember, I have no expectations of you, other than bringing your pretty selves + a sense of adventure. Now get out there and dork on, couples! Dork on.
